Craghoppers
I first started wearing Craghopper clothing about five years ago. It was coming up to the annual lads walking week in the Picos de Europa in northern Spain and I realised I was in dire need of a refit for the tasks ahead. There was a local outlet which fortunately had a sale on so I went for the lot; shirts, walking trousers and shorts, t-shirts and a bit more besides.
On holiday the gear got its first severe test, we walked the impressive Rio Cares Gorge both ways which is 14 miles although relatively flat. However, the heat was awesome that particular day in late May(30C plus) and the high mountains on each side trapped the heat. The wick away properties of the clothing was pushed to the limit and it was not found wanting. My back was a little sweaty where the rucksack was but the ability of the clothing to transfer sweat to the atmosphere was excellent.
The clothing also had anti mosquito/ bugs properties which I was frankly sceptical about. One day we got a little lost in a wooded valley and the heat was again a major factor(35C). We were all struggling but the buzzing things loved us and were a constant irritant. Later that evening sat outside the bar there was a count the bites session including ticks which embed themselves in your skin. I hadn’t one bite which was very unusual so it could be luck or the clothing helped, I believe it did.
Since that holiday the clothing has been through extremes of wet and cold and has performed very well. I have even bought some of the clothing for casual wear and have been happy with the ranges that Craghopper have been bringing out, I would certainly recommend giving it a try.
