The First Session

Basic Fitball Position

This is your first workout. Do not do any more than this for your first session. Sit on the correct sized fitball. Don’t try to sit on the top but rather on the front half. Straighten your back, have your feet shoulder width apartand keep your weight evenly distributed i.e. not putting more weight on one buttock than the other.

Whilst you are sitting on the ball, it will be constantly moving under your weight and your muscles will compensate for the imbalance. Don’t aim to sit for more than is comfortable. Some backache can be expected as your lumbar muscles attempt to maintain the alignment of the spine.

Try five minutes to begin with and progress by five minutes each time you perform this workout.

Note

As already mentioned, technique is very important. Incorrect movements can cause injury. Maintain your posture, do not slump, keep your chin up and back straight (not arched, rounded or skewed).
