Looking After Youself – Injury
What are the common injuries associated with walking, jogging and running?
Injuries occur in two ways, firstly from outside influences such as twisting your ankle in a pothole on the road, or biomechanical problems such as fallen arches of the foot.
It is not always possible to avoid the many and varied hazards that you will encounter while walking or runningm and accidents do occur. However, most injuries occur from stresses placed on your body by repetition. Thousands of strides sending loads through your system can have a detrimental effect. We are designed to take a lot of this load but sometimes through wear and tear there is a gradual onset of injury.
Learn to recognise the symptoms which include persistent soreness, swelling, redness and bruising – and act immediately. You can visit your GP or in many cases, a fully qualified Sports Physiotherapist may suffice.
