Steve Haywood joined up with the Wakefield District NHS to raise funds for Red Nose Day last week. The personal trainer from West Yorkshire donated a free personal training session as a prize for the fundraising events which took place on Friday 13th March 2009. So far, Comic Relief has raised a record £57 million, with more donations to be collected after the flurry of fundraising activities wind down. Steve hopes that the chance to get fit with a qualified personal trainer will tempt NHS workers to donate to the BBC charity:

It’s a great opportunity for anyone looking to improve their health, start working out or even for those hoping to compete in a race this summer. Comic Relief is a worthwhile cause which changes the lives of thousands of people the UK and abroad. I hope I can do my bit to help those people and at the same time, improve the general health of the people I work with.

The prize was offered as part of a “Red Nose Bingo” game which saw over 300 tickets sold for 50p – even the senior managers and Chief Executive got involved. The bingo raised £174.30. Angie Whiteley, who organised the prize donations, said that everyone who took part had a lot of fun. The day’s events will be featured in the weekly NHS bulletin “Newsbytes”.
