The Percy Pud 10K 2007
The Percy Pud is held in Loxley on the outskirts of Sheffield -formerly the haunt of the legendary Robin of Loxley -or, Robin Hood. It is a well established and popular route that is often booked up three months in advance. The 2007 event was organised by Steel City Striders and Andy Thake (Hallamshire) won the race this time around. It took place on Sunday 2nd December 2007 at 09:30am.
Steve was introduced to the Percy Pud by Alison Knockles, who was raising funds for the Megan Wyman charity. He accompanied four women along the all-road 10K route, who were also raising money for the Megan Wyman Fund. It was the first race for all of the ladies and was made much more emotional by the fact that they were friends and relatives of Megan. Because Steve had decided not to compete, he was asked to accompany the ladies and aid their efforts.
It became obvious after four miles that Laura was lagging behind due to a heavy cold. Therefore, the other three, who were doing well, were shooed on their way and Steve finished with Laura who battled it out to the finish line.
The Percy Pud 10k is almost unique among races in that the route doubles back on itself allowing onlookers to follow the progress of the runners as they race back along the same road after reaching Dam Flask Reservoir Weir. Chips also allowed the organisers to automatically record participant’s times. The times are available from www.steelcitystriders.co.uk, www.ukresults.net and www.race-results.co.uk
