There is no such thing as a junk mile

One Mile
I have been an avid reader of running magazines and articles for a long time and have seen trends and fashions come and go and even be re born. For a while now the phrase “junk miles” has cropped up now and again, inferring that some miles that are run are in fact useless miles. Where this idea came from and what kind of person or people thought it up is beyond my comprehension and I am stating in this article my complete and utter rejection of the phrase.
By my rough totting up I have run around 40,000 miles in my running career so far. Not one of these miles was wasted, some were fast , some were very slow but to me they have all counted. For the person thinking of trying running for the first time every step is positive one, for the person who wants to improve then a well thought out training plan will help, but, every mile counts.
So please folks, keep running, enjoy every mile and if you happen to see the phrase “junk mile” then ignore it and remember it was probably written by some person trying to create a name for themselves.
